Visa B2B Payments Add AI Agent Capabilities and Stablecoin Support
Visa rolled out AI agent pilots for B2B invoice payments and moved stablecoin prefunding to production in late October 2026.
Visa announced new capabilities for B2B and commercial payments on October 20 and 21, 2026. The updates cover AI agents that handle approved invoice payments, additional controls for virtual cards, supplier analytics tools, and production use of stablecoin prefunding for cross-border payouts.
AI Agent Pilot Enables End-to-End Invoice Payments
Visa, BILL, and Billtrust launched a live pilot that lets trusted AI agents initiate and complete buyer invoice payments through supplier portals. The system relies on Visa Intelligent Commerce, a Trusted Agent Protocol, and tokenized credentials rather than shared logins. Buyer-defined controls and transaction visibility remain in place throughout the process.
Participating BILL customers and Billtrust suppliers are already processing real transactions. The pilot tests identity verification, spending limits, and audit trails across platforms. Executives from the three companies noted that the approach removes manual steps while preserving oversight for finance teams.
This effort builds on earlier announcements from Visa’s June 2026 Payments Forum, including work with OpenAI on agent payments and the creation of an Agent Score and Directory. The pilot forms part of Visa’s broader push into agentic commerce for routine B2B workflows.
Commercial Card Controls and Supplier Analytics Expand
A new suite of fraud tools includes Supplier Validation to confirm recipients, Virtual Authentication using 3-D Secure, and Payment Controls that apply rules at the transaction level for spend amount, merchant, location, and timing. The controls are available in supported markets, while validation and authentication features remain in pilot with general availability planned for 2027.
Visa also released SESA 2.0, an AI-driven analytics platform that scores suppliers, provides benchmarks, and models card-acceptance opportunities. An earlier version of the tool identified more than $600 billion in potential cardable spend. These features target commercial card programs that seek to increase acceptance without increasing risk exposure.
Juniper Research projects global B2B virtual card volume will reach $14.6 trillion by 2029, representing 83 percent of the virtual card market. Visa’s updates address both security requirements and spend visibility that large buyers have requested.
Stablecoin Prefunding Moves to Production
Visa Direct stablecoin prefunding, including USDC, entered production through Inyo Global for near real-time cross-border payouts. The move follows earlier settlement pilots that moved billions through VisaNet and reached an annualized run rate of approximately $7 billion as of March 2026. Additional work covers tokenized deposits and stablecoin-linked cards.

Visa has not confirmed reports of late-stage talks to acquire Fireblocks. The company continues to expand settlement pilots and ecosystem partnerships without disclosing specific volume targets for the newest production rollout. Darren Parslow and Mark Nelsen of Visa stated that the combined capabilities supply the data, security, and controls needed to automate B2B payments at scale.
