Chainlink launched CustodySync on October 26, 2026. The service lets qualified custodians connect institutional clients to DeFi lending markets while assets stay in regulated custody. Anchorage Digital Bank, N.A., the first federally chartered U.S. digital asset bank, serves as the official launch partner and first qualified custodian to integrate the system with its Atlas Collateral Management product.

CustodySync synchronizes custodian collateral systems with onchain lending protocols across the full loan lifecycle. The process covers deposit, borrow, repay, and liquidate stages. Chainlink infrastructure supplies the core components: Proof of Reserve verifies onchain custody balances, Data Feeds and Data Streams deliver consistent pricing and loan-to-value calculations, and the Chainlink Runtime Environment automates workflow steps. Transfer-restricted receipt tokens represent custodied collateral onchain.

Liquidations follow a defined path. An appointed collateral agent, such as one operating through Atlas, manages the sale. CustodySync records committed sale proceeds onchain before final settlement occurs. This structure keeps the custodian in control of asset movement while enabling onchain activity.

The design reduces overhead for custodians that want to offer DeFi access. It supplies verifiable data and a consistent risk framework for lending markets. Institutions gain the ability to put passive capital to work without shifting assets outside regulated environments.

Anchorage Digital Integration and Market Context

Anchorage Digital integrates CustodySync directly with its existing Atlas Collateral Management system. Institutions using Anchorage custody can now access DeFi lending options through this connection. Features may differ by custodian, and not all functions are available at Anchorage at initial launch.

Chainlink reports roughly 700 billion dollars in digital assets under custody globally, compared with 250 trillion dollars in traditional assets under management. DeFi lending currently holds more than 80 billion dollars in deposits and more than 30 billion dollars in active loans. These figures indicate the scale of capital that could move into onchain markets once custody barriers are addressed.

Chainlink positions the service as a bridge between regulated custody and onchain liquidity for institutional DeFi. Anchorage CEO Nathan McCauley noted that institutions should not have to choose between qualified custody and onchain liquidity. The partnership aims to give custodians faster time-to-market for new services while maintaining control over client assets.

Next Steps for Broader Rollout

Chainlink stated that additional announcements are scheduled this week, including activity around the Link:NYC event on or around October 29. Further expansion is planned to additional qualified custodians and lending markets. The goal is to increase institutional access to DeFi lending through established custody relationships.

Current launch materials do not list specific live lending protocols, supported assets, or borrower metrics. Usage details are expected to emerge as more custodians adopt the system. The service remains open to qualified custodians that meet regulatory and technical requirements.
