Cloudflare Workers KV Instant Mode Expands Global Replication to 300 Locations
Cloudflare introduced Workers KV Instant on October 1, 2026, using its Quicksilver store for proactive replication across more than 300 edge locations.
On October 1, 2026, Cloudflare announced Workers KV Instant during its Birthday Week. The new mode uses the company’s internal Quicksilver v2 key-value store to replicate data proactively to more than 300 edge locations.
Developers access the same get, put, list and delete operations. The change removes cold-read delays that previously affected configuration data such as feature flags and routing rules.
Performance metrics and pricing details
Benchmark data released with the announcement show p99 read latency at 1.62 ms. Classic Workers KV recorded 287 ms for the same tail latency under identical conditions. Global write replication reaches 99 percent of locations in a median of 107 ms, with p95 at 181 ms.

Classic Workers KV continues to operate for other workloads with eventual consistency and edge caching that yields hot-key reads around 10 ms. KV Instant targets read-heavy patterns and carries new per-operation rates: $0.20 per million Class B reads, $0.10 per Class A operation, and $100 per MB-month of storage. Namespaces created in instant mode keep keys under 300 bytes and limit each namespace to 10 000 pairs.
Background and rollout timeline
Workers KV first appeared in 2018 to support low-latency global storage. Quicksilver has powered Cloudflare’s own configuration distribution since around 2020. The October 1 announcement placed KV Instant into private beta; an open beta is scheduled for later. Namespace creation requires the mode flag set to instant through the dashboard or Wrangler CLI.
Separately, KV analytics through kvOperationsAdaptiveGroups and kvStorageAdaptiveGroups have been available in the dashboard Metrics tab and GraphQL API with 31-day retention. Data-localization options for EU, US and FedRAMP jurisdictions reached general availability on October 2. Further expansion of edge locations and integration with additional developer-platform products are expected next.
Frequently asked questions
What is Cloudflare Workers KV Instant?
It is a new operating mode for Workers KV that uses Quicksilver v2 for proactive replication across more than 300 locations and delivers 1.62 ms p99 read latency.
How does KV Instant differ from classic Workers KV?
Classic mode remains eventually consistent with central storage and edge caching. Instant mode eliminates cold reads through continuous global replication and offers lower tail latencies.
When will KV Instant become generally available?
The service entered private beta on October 1, 2026. Cloudflare has stated an open beta will follow later in the year.
What are the new pricing rates for KV Instant?
Reads cost $0.20 per million operations, writes and deletes cost $0.10 each, and storage is billed at $100 per MB-month with namespace size limits.
